...Your friend is struggling to find a job while having a degree in graphic design and you want to help them out but you don’t know how to help them out because you chose engineering over liberal arts. Anyway, are there any graphic designers on Oppo that could offer some suggestions that I could do to help a close buddy of mine out? I think he’s onto his...fifth job hunt now after his current job told him not to come in repeatedly due to a lack of work for him to do.

It’s difficult, even my first job search as an engineer was hard, took me 8 months to find a job and it was awful.
Sometimes it’s management of the companies that lead to situations like his, at my first job (a really small company) they liked the idea of having a young grad around to take the strain off the MD who did all the design work. In practice there was little for me to do and the MD didn’t want to loosen his grip on design.
It might be a period of uncertainty in that market too, there is little he can do other than maybe try to branch out into something like web design too and work on his portfolio.
